WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SMARTPHONES IN 2021!

2020 might be a terrible year for a lot of stuff but it wasn't so bad for the smartphone industry, in fact, in 2020 the industry flourished like a green bay tree. From swivelling display of LG Wing to huge camera modules Samsung galaxy note 20 ultra, we have seen a lot of cool stuff this year. Apple brought back the classic design of iPhones back and google proved that smartphones don't have to be so expensive to be a flagship. We also saw an increase in the number of 5G smartphones and a lot of flagship features of 2019 came to mid-range and entry-level segment this year, for example, did you know that you can buy a mobile with 65W fast charging at a price of Rs.13K. We have also seen an increase in a number of folding smartphones this year and this time the hinges got sturdier and Samsung actually put a foldable glass in it.

Alright, enough talk about the past, now what to expect from the future.

Trends prove that companies love to copy apple and google for smartphone designs and I think this year it's gonna be amazing because I am fed up with companies launching big and hefty smartphones, with the launch of iPhone 12 mini in 2020, we will definitely see some mini smartphones this year. With most of the smartphones opting for USB type C ports it will become the new standard for every device you own. Yes! you heard it right this year you won't have to carry a different charger for your devices, you will be able to charge your laptop your smartphone your earplugs or your toothbrush all with a single charging brick.

We will also see more 108 MP smartphone cameras this year even in the budget segments, this trend has already begun with the launch of  MI 10i at a price of Rs. 20K, it has quad-camera setup with the main camera being 108 MP, it also has 5G and a snapdragon 750G chipset inside.

Although in 2020 google proved that camera hardware can easily be beaten with good software implementation, Google pixel 4a has only one camera at the back but still, it can capture better photos than flagships having more than 3 modules. This year we will also see in-display selfie cameras as many manufacturers already showcased their prototypes last year and the consumer versions will be launched soon.

The bezels were removed from smartphones a long time ago and with the punch hole camera design the top bezel is completely gone but for the people who love symmetry its a pain in the eyes to look at that bottom chin in the smartphones

and probably this year, we will see more symmetric designs like pixel 5 or galaxy s20. And with all the in-display stuff like fingerprint scanners and selfie cameras smartphones of 2021 will look more minimal and classic.

Augmented reality was a hot topic of 2020, Apple launched the latest iPhones with a lidar sensor that can create a 3D environment in just a quick scan of a room. In 2021 we will see some really cool smartphone features using this technology, we will see google's implementation of augmented reality in google maps and also shopping is gonna be a lot more fun as you will be able to see how the stuff looks in your home with augmented reality.

Qualcomm is already working on AR and VR technologies and in 2021 their chipsets will come equipped with all the features necessary to equip these. I think it's gonna be a big year for virtual reality stuff.

In 2020 we saw some mind-blowing folding smartphones from Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Flip 5G, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to the Motorola Razr 5G, these phones were great but really expensive. In 2021 folding smartphones are going to be cheaper, maybe not in the beginning but definitely at the end of the year. Also, we will see some new innovations from LG rumours are LG is going to launch its rollable phone this year.

From 8K video recording to 5G to high refresh rate screens to really powerful chipsets, I think 2021 is going to be an amazing year for smartphones, you can also watch CES 2021 for the glimpse of whats crazy gonna happen this year.
