According to a government report in 2018,
- A girl is raped every 20 minutes in India.
- Only about 1% of the rape victims report their crimes in India.
- 20% of men admitting to forcing their wives or partners to have sex
Well, you might already be aware of all these facts. But do we even mind to check the other side of the coin? Huh? DO WE?
Now check this out:
- Do you know that 98% of the 498a cases filed against men are false?
- More married men suffer abuse from their spouse than married women.
- More than 22,000 Indian Men have ended their life in reverse dowry Harassment by their wives against 6800 wives who ended their life due to dowry harassment by their husbands.
- More than two-thirds of married Men in India between the ages of 15 and 49 are victims of forced sex by their girlfriends and in more than 78% cases the men had been booked under Rape cases, as they refused to marry their girlfriends.
Feminism as an idea is growing, and it should, but what it is also doing is injecting ignorance and superiority in some women who fail to understand the true meaning of feminism. It is about equality, not giving preference to women. Feminism’s goal is to create society where men are no longer taught that “crying is for girls”.
The word feminism means, "Political, social, economic and cultural equality for both men and women." Feminism does not mean "Men hating." It feels really bad to see that feminism in India has been given a very ugly face by the courtesy of these ladies, who call themselves 'feminists' for no apparent good work done by them in the upliftment of their own gender. They instead have done enough to bring down the name of their gender by doing such mindless activities and hence rightly cursed by the other gender too.
There are feminists and then comes pseudo feminists. If you’re a feminist then you should not get offended by the explanation of pseudo feminism. Feminism is that women deserve respect like any other human being. Pseudo-feminism is saying women deserve more respect, or that people of other genders deserve no respect. Living in a society where women face several problems everyday its worst that some people are actually damaging the word feminism.
The purpose of feminism was to bring women at par with men; demanding equality of both genders. But the present scenario is such that the so-called 'feminists' are demanding matriarchy over patriarchy. It needs to be understood that winning of matriarchy over patriarchy is not feminism. What's the need to fight over the fact that which gender is better? To remind you, there exists another gender in our society, the transsexuals. Have you ever seen them fighting against men and women? No. They are perhaps the most logical creatures in understanding feminism and equalise. The battle of gender superiority doesn't make sense and it's foolish to do so. It's vague and pointless.
Hardly anyone on social media knows what feminism is about and they end up being pseudo feminists. Do pseudo-feminists really want equality? No, they want to create a world ruled by just woman. A woman should get away with any wrong doing? She shouldn’t just like a man shouldn’t. Women labelling themselves as feminist on social media wants empowerment and respect for women they think deserves it.
One cannot end Gender Binary by taking active participation in gender wars. It can be ended by realising that feminism is not just about allowing women who they want to be. It is about allowing both men and women who and what they want to be. It is a misconception that since the word "feminism" comes from the word "female", therefore, it is a set of guidelines made for the benefit and advantage(s) of females.
In general, parents teach their sons not to hit girls because she's a girl. It's wrong. Dear parents, instead explain your young boy not to hit girls because she is innocent and that physical violence towards anyone is immoral and unjust. Teach young kids that belonging to a particular gender doesn't earn him or her respect; respect is earned by the deeds a person does. Respect has got nothing to do with gender.
In buses and metros, separate seats are reserved for women. Why? Because there are strong chances of them getting groped? So going by that convention, all men are sexual predators?
In my opinion, instead of making separate compartments for men and women, a better vigilant security system should be set up. A stronger security system makes so much more sense. We need to teach men how to stay with women, not to stay away from them. This same fact goes for women too.Don't get me wrong here. I do support women empowerment. I too find sexual crimes very disturbing.Every time I flip the newspaper pages in the morning, I find hoards of violence against women. It disturbs me. I agree women have been oppressed for ages. Catcalling, FGM, female foeticide & crime against women are rampant. But that doesn't classify all men under the same category. Not all men are same.
There are are a few women (and maybe men feminists too) who haven't got the concept of feminism. They mistake pseudo-feminism as feminism and will keep ranting about the former on Internet for their entire life on earth. Ranting about an ideology on social media does not make them a follower of that ideology. If they really want to uplift the condition of women in society, they should stop fake-preaching it and first understand the concept of feminism and feminist. Once they do that, they should stop whining about it on the Internet and rather do some non-counterfeit social work in the society.
Feminism doesn't mean wearing the tiniest clothes, partying till late, being a rebel for no reason and working late hours in the office. These things don't signify equality. Smoking five cigarettes a day doesn't make you a feminist. No matter if you are a man or woman, you will suffer a tragic life if you smoke and drink intoxicants. You may or may not wear short dresses and still understand, spread and practise feminism. Clothes are an individual's personal choice. To these class of ladies, I want to say that don't call a man a 'sexist bloke' because he wants to pay the entire bill on a date. A lot of men offer to pay the bill even with their male friends, once in a while. And many women do that too. It's in no way demeaning to your gender or gender-bias act. Stop connecting his each and every activity with gender binarism.
#The Infamous Jasleen Kaur Case
On August 23, 2015, Jasleen Kaur, a student of Delhi’s St Stephen’s College had posted a photo of Singh at a traffic signal and had claimed that he had passed obscene comments at her and had threatened her as she tried to click his photo.
Kaur’s Facebook post had gone viral within hours. Sarvjeet Singh, however, had commented on Kaur’s photo identifying himself as the guy in the viral post and had stated that he was innocent and it was Jasleen who had threatened him when he had declined to follow her directions to jump the traffic signal.
Singh was soon arrested by the police. As the case got highlighted as another example of the harassment that Delhi girls face every day, celebrities and politicians also joined in to congratulate Jasleen as a brave young lady. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had also applauded Jasleen.
Kaur has become an instant celebrity. As per an India Today report, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had announced a reward of Rs 5000 for Kaur for her ‘bravery’.
Almost all media channels had jumped in instantly to paint Sarvjeet as a pervert and a criminal. Social Media users had also widely shared Jasleen’s post and other related posts, instantly declaring Sarvjeet as a pervert.
Soon after Sarvjeet’s arrest and eye witness examinations, the case started falling flat. Vishwajeet Singh, who was present at the location, stated that Sarvjeet was innocent and it was, in fact, Jasleen who had verbally abused and misbahved with Sarvjeet. Kaur had again taken to social media to claim she was right and the eye witness accounts were false.
He had lost many job oppurtunities beause his face has become ‘famous’ as that of a harasser and he could not even travel outside Delhi without informing the police. Sarvjeet Singh has been attending trials for four long years. Jasleen Kaur did not attend trials for three years. After missing 14 trial dates in the court, she had made her first appearance in December last year. She had claimed that she was away because she had ‘academic commitments’ in Canada.
For all these years, Sarvjeet Singh had dealt with the stigma of being the harasser. In 2016, he had again appealed to the people through a social media post, detailing how it was so easy to falsely accuse a man of harassment and how it is wrong to paint someone a victim and another person a harasser just on the basis of their gender.
To make my stand strong adding more facts:
- As per Indian laws, while a man can be booked and jailed for adultery (IPC 497), a woman can NEVER be booked for adultery.
- Again, as per Indian laws, a man can never be a victim of domestic violence. All this, when in almost half the cases of actual domestic violence, it is men who are at the receiving end. Now that’s some equality.
- When it comes to dowry, anything or everything the bride says she’s given the groom as dowry will be taken and returned to her. Even when she hasn’t actually given anything or some things (which is wrong).
- Exploiting these laws has literally become a scam of their own , wherein women marry and divorce almost every other month. They harass the groom and his family by not registering a false FIR in return of huge amounts of money and obviously, a divorce.
- When it comes to 498a, the word ‘cruelty’ is not properly defined, and even a case of a light argument can be considered harassment, and in turn cruelty, and in turn a visit to the police station at the minimum.
- If a woman has consensual sex with a man, but the man later breaks up with her/refuses to marry her, she can easily say that she was raped. A man on the other hand, if dumped by a woman can do no such thing.
In conclusion, I’d like to say that yes women have it bad when it comes to gender inequality, and we should continue to protest and fight and better ourselves to make this country a better place for women to live in. The government might have been ineffective, but really if men have to bring in any change men need to accept that they are equally responsible for all the cases of molestation and inequality against woman. But what about the inequality against men. Who will protest and fight for men? Who will protect the men of this country?
What stops a woman from blaming and destroying men's entire life? Almost nothing!
And men have been destroyed, and they will continue to be destroyed, until everyone is aware of the inequality men have to face.
